Though the private company is charged with serving the public and required to report its dealings to the government, it also has a mandate to remain competitive and profitable. The local government, however, remains the major shareholder (with 76% of the shares) of the MTR Corporation. The move was part of a series of initiatives by the Hong Kong government to dissolve its ownership in public utilities, with the aim of reducing expenditures and boosting overall efficiency. ![]() The MTR system was established as a public entity in 1973-74 before being privatized as the MTR Corporation in 2000. The highly efficient and futuristic scene at the Super Operation Control Center (Super OCC) is located inside the Tsing Yi MTR station, part of Hong Kong’s renowned public metro network. MTR generally doesn’t release information about every delay or accident, but says the most common incidents result from passengers rushing train doors and sick commuters triggering emergency alarms.Īfter this episode, the incident box is reset and workers in the control room quickly resume normal operations. To play, draw lines between stations to connect passengers (triangles, circles or squares to start with) with matching station types – if more than six passengers are left waiting at a station, you lose! Your resources are trains and tunnels, which are both limited and increase every “week” (a few minutes or so of game play). “Each game’s map is a work of art, built by you in the classic abstract subway style of Harry Beck,” according to the New Zealand-based developer. It does make sense, perhaps due to the simple aesthetics which never stray beyond a clean-cut metro map no matter how awful or haphazard your designs may be. The game is visually beautiful with a simple focused task: build your own metro map to serve passenger demand… and passenger demand grows quickly and unexpectedly.ĭeveloper Dinosaur Polo Club says the game offers “compelling, constructive, hectic, relaxed gameplay. Transit fans and NUMTOTS will love Mini Metro, a 2014 subway simulator going viral this week after developers offered it for free during the global Coronavirus lockdowns. If you think you could do a better job than MTR, unlock level six of Mini Metro and get to work!
